CHELMSFORD COUGARS 12

BRAINTREE YOUTH EMERALDS 11

This was the year 6's first 7 a side game and what a game it was.  With a random distribution of bibs the girls took to the court excited but still a little nervous.  Braintree started well with a stream of goals which by the end of the first quarter left us 1-4 down. The opposition had a good advantage as the majority of their players were quite tall but that said they were passing well and feeding more competently into their circle.  However, by the end of the second quarter we had defended so well that the gap began to close to 3-6 to Braintree.  Megan Cotton moved from GK to GD as her performance was outstanding in defence and clearly was needed further up the court.  She didn't disappoint as she snatch and intercepted balls all the way through the game.  With another shift around Shannon Morris and Jessica Hardy swapped position and that too, proved to be a crucial move.  Jessica worked well with Olivia Scott in the attacking circle and scored some lovely goals.  Chloe Green broke up play too in centre court which in turn led to more crucial goals which had us leading by 2 goals.  With only two minutes to go, Braintree equalised so the pressure was on.  Through sheer determination the girls tightened up their marking and pulled back the crucial goal to leave us leading 12-11.  My player of the match has to go to Megan Cotton as her marking and general attitude and defending skills were excellent.  Well done girls, you deserved that win!

CHELMSFORD COUGARS 13 FLAMES LIGHTNINGS 9

With three year 5's playing for the Cougars we felt today's game maybe be under serious pressure as they're only used to playing High Five netball, but how wrong we were.  Once again, the whole team pulled together and worked so well together.  The first quarter had us 2-0 up with some super defence play from Darcey Lodge and Megan Cotton.  They gave the Flames attack no room for movement and hounded them throughout the game.  With a minor substitution in the second quarter I brought on Olivia Scott who came on as Centre and intercepted some lovely balls and created clever space round the court.  Phoebe Hardy backed her up nicely by grabbing a handful of loose balls and feeding our attack back down the court.  By the third quarter and another substitution we were tired and flagging somewhat and Flames took the lead by about 4 goals. However, Hannah Martin fed accurately into the shooters and again picked up lots of careless passes from the opposition. Under pressure, we had another change about and put Olivia into Goal Attack and with Jessica Hardy managed to increase our goals with some lovely movement in the semi circle.  Olivia read the game beautifully and created many chances for Jessica whose timing and movement was spot on.  Jess took a few chances and proved that under pressure she performs brilliantly.  At the final whistle, we won the game 13-9.  Thanks must go to the year 5's for stepping in at the last minute.  My player of the match must go to Olivia Scott for all round play.
